Did you know.....
The first recorded wrestling match was held in the 708 B.C. Olympics. Wrestling was highly valued as a form of military exercise
without weapons. Some of the rules of the game included; Blows not allowed, Tripping was permitted, no biting or gouging and
there was no weight classes. Wrestlers were anointed with olive oil then dusted with powder to make them easier to grasp. The
competition took place in the "keroma", or beeswax, a muddy and sticky arena. Wrestlers had a special combination of agility, skill
and craft. The most famous and successful wrestler of this time was MILO who had five victories at Olympia.

In the viking age in northern Europe a variation of wrestling was called GLIMA. The special thing about glima is that wrestlers wore
belts to make them easier to grip. Glima is the national sport of Iceland.
